GENERATIONS OF ADAM

Sep.- Nov. 2019

Generations of Adam explored the heaviness of trauma which exists in all of us.

This immersive experience explored several themes of trauma. During development we collected knowledge and stories around intergenerational, religious, interpersonal relationship, childhood, sexual identity and body shaming. In order to mindfully develop this show we teamed with Embodied Movement Therapy to hold a safe space for community members to take part in Embodied Movement Modalities over the course of 4 sessions. This lead to the sharing of ideas and personal narratives used in script creation. Through research and interviewing techniques the Artstillery team created the full script for Generations of Adam before going into rehearsals at 723 Fort Worth Avenue in Dallas, Texas.

The results were a highly charged emotional journey for our audience members, cast and team. Each night we stood still with our audience and took a deep breath together to acknowledge the work that had just been shared and allow everyone time to digest the piece they had just witnessed. Every night we closed the show, we found that we stayed with our audience for sometimes up to 2 hours discussing how the piece moved them, or simply how they identified with the words shared that evening. For us the conversations afterwards were just as powerful as presenting the piece itself.

In full immersive fashion, Artstillery was proud to work with visual, performance, lighting and sound artists in Dallas to create a truly honest experience.
